Friday is my cat. My indignant, ungrateful, murderous, black of heart and appearance cat. Friday isn’t grumpy cat, she is high and mighty cat. She stalks the overweight, unsuspecting dog. She leaps out of bushes into the path of non-suspecting persons. She meows like a fire engine to convey her wishes. Most disturbing is the murderous plot she connived to murder her innocent, loving brother.
In an attempt to peer into her dark soul I went on a journey of her past. She was loved as a kitten, given all advantages to good kitties. Yet somewhere we went wrong. Could it have been the 18 month old carrying her by her neck? Could it have been the entrapment in a plastic container? Could it have been the time she was lost inside the children’s mattress and couldn’t be extracted?
Close evaluation of the situation leads me to believe...
She’s a typical cat.
She don’t give a damn.
She don’t care what no one thinks about her.
And...
She will knock off anyone who get‘s in her way.
I believe there are life lessons in the common day to day objects and events that happen to us. I believe there is something to be learned from Friday the Black Cat.
Mainly, it‘s important not to care what anyone thinks about you. You can’t change how people feel about you, so don’t try. Just live your life and be happy.
I’m a people pleaser. I want ALL the people to be happy, ALL the time. I heard a friend say, “If everyone is happy, you’re not doing things right.” I was shocked! How could this be so?! I pondered that one for a long time. But truly you can never make one side happy without hurting the other side. You can’t make good and bad decisions and be living right. You can’t make ALL the people happy and in doing so, make yourself miserable, exhausted and yowling.
The other cat lesson to be learned from Friday today is...it actually is NOT okay to knock off your brother to be the only cat child in the house. We don’t live in the Wild West people. Coercing your cat brother across a highway knowing full well he will get distracted and smashed by a speeding vehicle is wrong. However, if you’re a human, it’s not only wrong but you will go to a little place called jail. More applicable to each of us is the message that knocking people off metaphorically speaking is also bad. Pride will tell you, you have to make someone else look bad to look good. Don’t listen. That’s not real accomplishment. That’s smashing your brother.
Now take these life lessons and feel yourself develop gratitude for everyday occurrences because even your ungrateful cat can teach you something. However, don’t try to thank Friday in person. She haunts the bushes in my front yard and you might lose a limb. Remember she don’t give a damn.
